Post by: PAUL H on July 27, 2009, 08:15:11 AM
Hi all... I have these two items and need some info please, they were bought from dealers some time ago
they have the same design to rear so must be related.
The first one is in 117mm height and weighs 1240g and number two is in 219mm height and weighs 1080g.
Thanks in advance Paul.

Probably advertising gifts. It will not be fun trying to ID the logo though. The design does look like a bollard though.
Title: I do not have a clue with this piece of Art glass ?
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on June 29, 2010, 07:24:47 PM
I bought this because it looked interesting and I had not ever seen a piece like it before.

Unusual colour with some swirls inside the glass, smooth back, fine textured ribbed side and very top of the front, it has a textured front with the 7 v's and a square near to base with 4 dots, ribbed textured base.

No makers mark.

Height 9" or 23 cm and weight 1340 gm

Thanks for any help Roy

I have no idea either, seen one before, somewhere.... ::)

Here's another one (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/heavy-Scandinavian-art-glass-paperweight-/220625514513?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Art_Glass&hash=item335e4e3011) in clear glass with two coloured bits of decoration, currently for sale on ebay.

Kosta Boda/Bertil Vallien might be worth a look, even if just to discount them.

The bottom "square near to base with 4 dots" looks like it could be BB with the first B reversed.

The bottom "square near to base with 4 dots" looks like it could be BB with the first B reversed.

Looks like that to me too.  BB, with one B reversed.

No sure if anything here -- but here is a good long list of *several glass marks*.  Worth the look, and worth book-marking this page too ( I think)
http://www.myinsulators.com/glass-factories/bottlemarks.html

Lists a Berney Bond, Bellaire Bottle, Baker Bros.....?????

I do not think this list applies to *just Bottles*, as I saw E.O Brody listed there, and we all know they made Vintage Vases too.  So maybe worth a look, or just worth keeping that list for a reference for stuff down the road.

?? Merely a suggestion

I might be going off on completely the wrong tack but the two BB back to  back remind me of the Bugatti mark.

Definitely not Kosta/Bertil Vallien. Sea and one or two of the others ( MÃ¥lerÃ¥s and Lindshammar I think ) have been making obelisks for quite a while but they haven't made these ones.Good luck in getting an ID  :)

The first one in this thread (clear one) looks very similar to something Ikea did that came with a small light stand under it.
Title: No Idea about this heavy glass totem or pillar Help please
Post by: Pat on October 17, 2010, 02:13:09 PM
I honestly do not have a clue about this. It is 9" tall and very heavy. The sides are unpolished. It has norse runes moulded into the back and amoulded mark that looks like SB. Any guesses about it or maybe someone knows.

My first suggestion would be Severin Brorby, who designed for Hadeland. I haven't seen anything he did quite like this, but he did produce a variety of styles, including pressed glass. Interesting piece.

Hi yes very similar but they are not the same maker the makers mark is the Bach to back BB

The mark could be a back to back BB, but it could also be EB.

I agree that these have the look of being some kind of commercial objects - perhaps corporate give-aways or advertising objects placed in store windows or inside display cases next to merchandise.

It is not a Bugatti logo - that is an EB marking but the E in that is backwards facing left and the ends of the E are open.  Click on this photo to enlarge it and then look at the logo that is in black just above the white BUGATTI lettering to see what it looks like.  It is sort of like a 3 B.

I had posted earlier in this thread that these were from Ikea. In that post I used the word "similar" but only because the only ones I saw were clear glass whereas there are pictures here of coloured glass ones. I remember when they were being sold off as end of line stuff at £1.99 or £2.99 complete with light stand. I bought a couple but really just for the light stands. Well aware that being retailed by Ikea doesn't however identify the maker.

so alsretro what designs were on your ones you bought as there seems to be a couple of different designs , and did they have the yellow and red streak of enamel in them

They definitely had the same logo but no enamel. We are talking a good few years ago - maybe 7 or 8 - but from memory definitely the V shape but possibly the symbols as in the other one pictured on this thread. Any time I have since seen one I haven't bothered buying it remembering their source. I've possibly still got mine somewhere buried in a box - I could have a look in my garage but "I may be some time" as an explorer once said. :D
