Title: Is this fish Alabastro glass?
Post by: glassobsessed on July 29, 2009, 03:52:19 PM
Is this little fish Alabastro glass and is the label generic? Also wondering about age, maker etc.

From lips to tail fin 7cm, base to tip of dorsal fin almost 5cm, so quite small. The colour around the head shifts from purple to pinky purple according to changes in light.

Thanks, John.

The fish looks alabastro. I don't recognize the fish or the label. It is a really nice fish -- just gorgeous.

Some of the other photos make it look like a shark. ;D

I have been taking a closer look at the fish and a surprising amount of effort went into it for such a small fry. The body looks like amethyst cased in opaque glass. The fins have detailing and are applied, the lips too, then a tool used to form their shape. The eyes are a half a sphere and appear (using a loupe) to be a dark brownish coloured glass , maybe stuck on with the same tool used to form the shape around the eyes?

I only picked it up because it reminded me a bit of one in Anita's Muranozoo, when I got it home there were few similarities, still a fine catch.  ::)
