This vase is quite thick & heavy. I haven't a clue who made it. I thought it was Blenko but now I realize it isn't. Any info would be apreciated.
Thank you.

pairpoint gunderson
-
Paul..why do you say pairpoint gunderson? I've searched & this piece doesn't seem to resemble any of his.
-
Wish I could help...I saw this answer a few days ago & the one thing I can confirm is that its neither Gunderson era Pairpoint nor is it Erickson Art Glass (Bremen, Ohio). Ken

Thanks Ken.
I wonder if it might be Whitefriars?
-
Definitely not, sorry. Bubble items are often hard to ID, as they were and are made worldwide

I've never been able to determine who made this vase. It is heavy & measures approximately 10-1/4" tall. Any ideas on a maker?

You don't need to post again, just reply to your original thread http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27908.msg152003.html#msg152003

Aaackk!! Sorry about that. I forgot that I had posted this last year. :-[

Seems I missed this post last year. Got the very same vase here myself and was about to
start a new topic soon. My so far private working hypothesis would have been ´Empoli´.
Anyone confirm or disagree?

Both topics merged to keep us straight. :)

About 10 years ago I had amassed a small collection (about 5) of pieces like this which were all similar, and I sold them to a person who was a pairpoint-gunderson fanatic, including a vase like this one. He was quite sure the piece was made by them. He could have been wrong, I guess, but he was pretty deeply into them and knew their stuff. Good luck.
-
Dirk..I had never heard of Empoli but will check it out.
Paul..thank you for that info. I'll also check out pairpoint-gunderson.
sigh..wouldn't it be nice if all glass pieces were signed?
:)

It is Empoli verde. Not Rossini but either Toso Bagnoli or Vetreria Etrusca.

The pontil finish is as good as a signature on Empoli glass.

Ivo..thank you so much! :kissy:
-
Me, too - thanks! Would you dare a guess when it was made? Mine´s got quite some wear.
Generally I´m a bit astonished about the datings of the items on that site; they seem so
early. Do you think they are correct?

Ivo, I must be missing something here, so could you explain what it is about the pontil finish that is so distinctive and sets it apart?
Craig

Pontils are correctly formed but not polished to high gloss standard.
Datewise, I was led to believe the green relates to the fact they used bottle stock, and that glass makers from Murano were hired to work with this material after 1944 when Murano was laid off due to absence of market. I believe bottle glass was used for hand made items until somewhere in the seventies. I do not think the "history" on the site given is correct.

Thanks again for your comment, Ivo, much appreciated!
