Title: Is this Mdina please? Sharp pontil, small flared bowl / ashtray
Post by: Max on August 16, 2009, 05:21:48 PM
This is 5" in diameter and I guess it's an ashtray, although it's a bit deep.  Lots of wear to base and curiously sharp, cracked off pontil mark to base. Mdina colours...no signature, lots of wear.  Does anyone recognise this shape or is it just something they didn't bother signing?

Thanks!

Unusual for Mdina to finish a base like that, what about Alum Bay?

Bump - I wondered if this pretty bowl could now be id'd?  It does look like Mdina doesn't it, at first glance I thought it may be one of their ashtrays?  but the shape seems odd  :-\

The Mdina bowls I'm thinking of with a similar shape are trailed, like this but more often in blues and greens: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=40892.0

The way the patterns of colour in the glass work say more Mtarfa to me, but I don't know the shape at all, it doesn't seem right to my guts, but that doesn't mean anything.
I would not be surprised to find it has nothing to do with Malta or Harris dynasty glass at all.
