Title: Scandy/German random bubble vase.
Post by: lyndhurst44 on August 17, 2009, 08:21:38 PM
Hi,
I purchased this vase yesterday in a bootsale and I would like your expert opinion as to where it might have been produced please, I suspect Germany but what do I know!. It is full of random multi shaped but mostly stretched bubbles. It has a clear base and a polished round pontil mark. It seems to me to be a good quality item, quite heavy at 700gms and measures 9" tall.
Thanks again,
Bryn

Yes P has a light green one with an etched ship on it - which some time ago I recognised as "probably" Reijmyre. Still not 100% convinced that there is a link between bulb vases and maritime decoration - but then, stranger things have happened.

Hi Ivo,
Thanks for the info. I am quite suprised at that but not unpleasantly.

Cheers,
Bryn

Bryn, I have bulb vases with fish on them, fans, birds, butterflies and even one with a painter's brush.
Admitted they are all French and enamelled, but hey, to each country his own!

Hi Pamela,
Ah French you say, not Reijmyre as Ivo suggested then. Did you list your ship design bulb vase on the board, I would really like to see it if possible please?
Many Thanks,
Bryn

Pamela is called Patricia, the vases are identical and the discussion spread into the wider field of decoration - hope this clears up the confusion  :)

Oops, sorry about the name error Patricia. Another senior moment I'm afraid.  :spls:
Your really sharp today Ivo, watch you don't cut yourself.   >:D
My question was harmlessly directed to Patricia as I was just interested to see how the vase might have looked with the enamelling added. But then if it's going to upset Ivo again perhaps we should just leave it lie.

Thanks anyway,
Bryn

Hi Bryn -
the Reijmyre piece has an etched decoration - not enameled - just like the one in the attached photograph. Sorry for the poor photo quality. It is from a range of glassware where the colour, the bubbles and the naive decoration were part of the design. Patricia's vase has the same colour and the same decoration, so IDing was not too hard once the shape was confirmed.
And what could you mean by "upset Ivo again"  :24: I don't think you ever tried!

Thanks.
I think I realised all along that it was some form of bulb vase but I wish I could have found out from where it originated. The clear base really makes me wonder if it's Swedish but the bubbles and polished pontil are confusing that guess.
Not to worry, let it remain unsolved.
Cheers,
Bryn

i think this conversation has got a little confusing Bryn, it's Reijmyre. Patricia has one just like it but with an etched ship.
