Hi again,
Can any of you out there help me ID this 'old' glass bowl, I do believed this is from the late 60's as it has come from a family friend who has decided to boost a fledgling collection with some of his bits and pieces. The dish is very heavy and, size wise, is roughly 8" across and stands 3" high. Its a really nice blue to the base melting up to purple/pink in the main body. Just in case the pictures aren't clear, the inside of the bowl is smooth the moulding is on the outside of the bowl.

Looks as if it might be neodymium glass. I suggest that you check it with a torch and with fluorescent light to see if there is a change in colour.

HI, Forgive my dumbness, I can get a torch and a fluro light, then, is it a dark room that I use? and what kind of change am I looking for? will it be very obvious? Cant wait to get home now to test it!!!!!!!!
Cheers D

Not dumbness - I had a couple of pieces of neodymium glass, and didn't recognise them as such, until I read a couple of threads here!! Basically, if there is neodymium in the glass, it should show as pink under light from an incandescent bulb (which is why I suggested a torch) and a more lavender blue colour under fluorescent light. Don't bother to rush home - early evening is perhaps the best time.

Thanks, I'll let you know, D

It should be pink under an ordinary tungsten lightbulb as well, and blue under the low-energy type lamps and fluorescents. :) (it doesn't look like neodymium to me though.)
-
It doesn't look like neodymium to me, especially with that turquoise casing.

looks very much like a piece i had and sold a few weeks ago which definatly wasnt neodymium, the shape is different but the colours are the same, its on here somewhere will have to find it and link).
neodymium can be in lilac colour in normal daylight and then a gorgeous pale blue under a normal every day light bulb (best seen at night i think, as the difference is really obvious)

here is my one colours are similar but style is completely different sorry probably not much help http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,27588.0.html

Chribska perhaps, but not neodymium glass. (Good site on neodymium glass http://www.mindspring.com/~reyne/neowhatsis.html)
-
Chrisbka came to my mind as well, altough the colours are a little muted.

Hi, sorry I never got back sooner, yep everyone who guessed it wasn't neodymium glass well done. It does seem to be a blue colour to the base and 'fingers' holding the pink/purple bowl. I will have a look at Chribska on the net and see how the colours look compared to the bowl. Thank you all for your help and input I had a sneaky idea it wasn't Murano as I was told at the time I got it.

Hi, after being aimed towards Chribska, I came across this finished ebay item http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380134477870, which I think, shape and colour wise looks almost spot on ( obviously without the clear base ) The ebay item seems to be attributed to Josef Hospodka, if it is indeed by Hospodka, I really think my bowl could be also, please would you all cast your more experienced eyes over this ebay item and firstly confirm that the ebay item is by Hospodka ( no guarantees there ) and then over the posible match to my bowl, the last ebay picture really looks like an exact match to the shape of my bowl.
Cheers everyone, David

It's difficult to see the pontil mark on this one. I still think it's probably Czech but not Chribska because of the pontil mark, maybe Skrdlovice is the answer, although I don't know. They seem to have used both round pontil marks and flat bases.

Thanks Christine I really appreciate all the help I will look into Skrdlovice, Slainte David
