Title: Milk Glass Comport for ID please. Looks Art Deco?
Post by: Tinker-Taylor on August 21, 2009, 01:46:21 PM
Hello again,

I bought this recently and was told that it was Victorian milk glass, but it looks more Art Deco to me.

It stands 4" tall and 5" wide.

Please can you identify the maker?

Thanks,
Stu.

I think it's Victorian era. My wife and I have this sugar basin in blue/white slag and the cream jug to match. Alas, no manufacturer's marking or registry on either piece. I suspect Edward Moore.

Thanks James.  So, just so I understand correctly, is this a sugar bowl?  Sorry - just seeking clarification.

(Also, if it isn't a sugar bowl, what did the Victorians use it for please?)

Thanks in advance.

It's a sugar bowl; they were often large in relation to milk jugs until post WW 2
