Title: French frosted Art Deco lidded bowl with nude figure as handle
Post by: lyndhurst44 on August 21, 2009, 01:49:23 PM
Hi,
I purchased this pressed frosted glass lidded bowl a couple of weeks ago. The bowl is fairly standard but the lid handle is represented as a nude lady figurine. On the bowl base are the raised marks M Model and France. I have Googled the name M Model without much success. I wonder if anyone else has come across either the name before or perhaps a similar bowl.
Measurements bowl 6.5" diameter and height 7.5" to top of figure.
Thanks,
Bryn

Hi

Yes M Model was one of the better opalescent glass houses in probably 1930s France - probably Paris. Chances are their glass was actually made by Choisy le Roi. At their best they were in a similar league to Cesari, Ferjac etc -and just like these, very little is known about them.

Their pieces were usually made in opalescence and also clear - like you box -I've seen a variety of Model animals all quite good quality -this is the first box

cheers

Mike
