Title: Etched mark STUART on old lead crystal decanter
Post by: Tina on August 22, 2009, 07:24:52 AM
Hi,
This is an heavy old decanter that stands 8 inches to the rim or 10.5 inches to the top of the stopper.
I'm wondering if any of you clever folk can help put a date to this from the etched mark?
I've found other Stuart marks online but can't find this one which just says STUART in capital letters
Thanks
Tina

Mark is sandblasted... 1980-2000 (ish)

Thanks Frank! .... are you sure?

It's a surprise to me, I would have sworn my mum had this one well before the 80's but then there's boxes of it, so I could be wrong.

thanks again, Tina

Tina i believe the early Stuart marks have a squiggle on the bottom of the last t a bit like a tadpole the longer the Squiggle the older the mark . , i am sure Frank knows his Stuart marks . 1980 is quite a long time ago.

Yes, I realise that, I hope no offence taken Frank. None intended.

I'd agree with Frank on this - I've just found the same mark on a recent-ish Stuart snowdrop vase.

Thank you all for your help. I do appreciate it.

I know there is a way we can earn some revenue for this site by linking ebay listings to the glass message board.
Does the glass being sold on ebay have to appear on this site first for that to happen?
...and how do we do it?

If I have offended you Frank, then I most humbly apologise. I had some fifteen decanters when mum died, not sure how many are out there still, and I clearly have confused this with another.

Hi Tina, there's a link between the first two posts in every topic... click that to go to eBay for your listings or bids and make sure you accept the cookie offered, and the board gets a small commission. I'll add the link here as well for you:
Help the GMB eBay link (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5336050183&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi5.ebay.com%2Fws%2FeBayISAPI.dll%3FSellHub3Visitor). Thanks for asking. :)

Edited to add: no the glass doesn't have to be on the GMB first at all, it's that link which does the work. Oh, and it's not just glass sales that will benefit the board - anything you sell via that link will do. :)

It is difficult to offend me and you are always welcome to  question anything I say. My replies tend to be short (time issue) and blunt. I do get things wrong too.
