Bought this piece the other day. Quite heavy, 4.75 inches high, white interior and heavy with ground pontil.

Hello, IMHO If the piece has a ground pontil as you stated, it should have a fire polished rim. It appears from the images to also have a ground rim, indicating that it has likely been cut down due to damage. The form also appears to me to be "missing the top of the vase".
The multiple layers of casing and the color mix would lead me to Czech glass, but it is difficult from the pic.

There are a number of books that could be useful. I like Bill Geary's book, which deals more with expensive glass. For the more average glass that you're likely to find, Leslie Pina's Scandinavian Glass, 1930-2000: Smoke & Ice and Scandinavian Glass 1930 to 2000: Fire and Sea are probably best.
The link to the Glass Encyclopedia at the top right of this page will take to you a very useful list of books. Warning, some of them are very expensive.
