Title: help with unsigned free form dish
Post by: Paul S. on August 24, 2009, 07:58:31 PM
I appreciate there are shed loads of these things around  -  some signed ones that are very desireable  -  and others with very dubious attributions.   Needless to say, mine is unsigned, but I bought it for a quid yesterday because it looked a good colour which I like  -  had a flat ground base and a half decent ground and polished pontil.    The outer rim of the base has a little touch of class by being just very slightly bevelled.  No other marks whatsoever.   Size about 27 cms. by about 20 cms.   Probably difficult, so I won't expect too much, but thanks for looking, and sorry the pics. are a bit duff  - not an easy thing to photograph.     Paul S.

Ikea - can't remember the series name, but discontinued 4-5 years ago.

thanks for the reply  -  guess I was expecting it be something along the lines you mention.   Will have to keep my eyes open for a signed one now!!    Paul S.

... they turn up signed every now and then ... too bad they bear signatures from designers that are too old or too dead to shop at IKEA  >:D

I like your style Lovejoy  -  'if you're prepared to wait 30 minutes, we can knock up whatever provenance you wish'  -  let's just hope I now find one with a signature. Paul S.

... Do you mean 'labelled', not 'signed'?  :)

unfortunately, I have never found one with either, although I seem to remember that in one of the Miller's books it talks of a 'signature' on some.   However, you may be correct about the labels as opposed to signatures, but I will have to wait until I find one, and will then let you know.  If you hear a yell, or whoppee from the northern hemisphere then its me with a real one.   Paul S.

If you wanted a large freeform bowl with signature, then you're probably best hunting out Per Lütken's 'Selandia' bowl for Holmegaard - it was in production for more than 50 years and isn't so difficult to find (although the post-1970s ones were generally unsigned).
