Get the impresssion this is 1920's,the surface has tiny fractures(for the matches no doubt)that will take off your skin, did a particular glass house make this or is it something that could come from anywhere?Keith
-
Do you think perhaps it's a candlestick?
-
Doubt it with that surface,it's designed for friction I'm sure.Keith

Could you explain why?
a) Wild guess?
b) A dealer told you?
c) Based on empirical research and superior knowledge?
d) Hope to fit match-striker hypothesis, based on (a) or (b) above?
;D ;D

Good question, seen a number or strikers with silver rims hall marked for early 20th century and some a little later, this has quite a bit of wear but I don't think it's Victorian,I suppose you could say 'gut feeling' but that hasn't always been to reliable I am always open to other ideas(the only way to learn)Keith

I think I'd be looking more toward the 1980s onwards, it really doesn't strike me as older than that... but I could be well-wrong! And most likely a candleholder as Max suggests methinks. :)

That surface just looks like crackle glass from here, but it's hard to tell.
-
Why produce such an abrasive surface on a candle holder?the wear is genuine, heavy glass and iridescent, could be 40's but still think it's earlier,Keith
-
Yep,it's crackle but on a tiny scale, the surface has been left rough for some reason,Keith
