Title: Davidson Jam or Marmalade Bowl
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on September 06, 2009, 10:39:03 AM
Davidson glass bowl in an interesting holder, maybe more for jam , the holder and spoon are marked Celtic plate Made in England, while the holder itself is nicely decorated, I would have thought they have been together since they were made but cannot be sure

Looks right. I have a uranium one in a plain EPNS holder with a spoon. Holder is basically the same shape but but plain and like thick wire IYKWIM

I can't believe I am about to make my first suggestion... ahem... drum roll please...

Well, in fact, all I "know" is that the design of the bowl I have seen referred to as "Blackberry Prunt" and I have seen some on 20centuryglass.com

(Hope I am not driving more experienced people mad by stating the blindingly obvious here - just enjoying joining in.)

I have an example of the type of bowl with a chrome base on ebay right now.

Stu.

Mod: Link to active sale removed or the topic would need to be moved to Market Place in line with Board Policy. Adding a pic of your piece would be fine, just not the live link.

Stu you are spot on, well done!  :hiclp:  In fact, "blackberry prunt" is the common name for this pattern, it's really the Davidson 269 pattern which was registered as design number 533040 on 18 November 1908 but which was made for many many years afterwards. The chrome fittings tend to date from the later years of course.

Apologies for my posting above.  Here's a picture of my bowl.

Anne - thanks for that other link above - I've been able to "name" several of my own Davidson items through that.  I had been to the site before but found it oddly tricky to navigate my way around.  Will use it more from now on though.

As a child we used ours for cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Think the evil step-mother ended up with it (shame, 'cuz it came from my mother's family).
