Got to be a gin bottle but can some one give me an approximate date to it,please,Keith.
-
Looks as if it might be early 19th century - possibly even older. Could you post a photo of the base? and the top of the neck?
-
PIc's as requested

Thanks for the pics - sorry not to have replied earlier.
Looking at the base, it would appear to me that this is mould blown, and rather more recent that I first thought. So perhaps the neck was made to look antique. Oude Genever, perhaps.

Thanks,Oude Geneva?new one on me???
-
Oude= old, Genever=gin; a particular style of Dutch gin; so possibly at some time in the last century a Dutch or Flemish company marketed their product in an "antiqued" bottle; not a fraud, just a marketing ploy.
I still have a ceramic bottle I dug up intact from my garden - how long it had been there, I do not know, but most of the coins that came up were pre-decimalisation. I know it came from the continent, but I've never been able to identify the incised marks. You don't even have the paper label to help you, so you will have to hope that someone recognises the shape!!!

Ta,will check bottle collector sites,Keith.
