Thanks for the reply,it has that 'honey' amber colour you see in other marked pieces and has that Webb 'feel' if you know what I mean ::) ;D ;D

quote from Keith..............'and has that Webb 'feel' if you know what I mean'   ..............nope  -  what does Webb feel like Keith, and I'm not joking.   If this is a good tip, then perhaps I can make a killing next time I go out looking for glass. ;D

It's it's Webb that should Sunshine amber, if it contains Uranium, it's certainly not Honey amber!

(I believe Lustrousstone has identified some bowls as Honey amber, it's an odd colour - a bit greeny browny, but glows like billy-oh in sunlight.)

oh, Emmi, I'm all for touchy feely ;)            As we all know, these things come in much bigger sizes, and are then called 'bucket' vases  -  and are most often attributed, wrongly as you say, to W/Fs.  -  most probably because of the controlled bubbles and colour (and most obviously of all, because most of the public have heard of W/Fs., but wouldn't automatically think of Webb).     The large examples I've seen have smaller bubbles (more like W/Fs. bubbles - just to confuse things).        I am definitely a Webb's man (can't afford the W/Fs. prices  -  'Tulip' vase at Ardingly the other week, and he wanted £400!!!!).    I have a piece of Richardson's in amethyst (1920 ish) -  which you might mistake for Webb  -  so not an easy area to feel sure of attribution, especially if you're missing a back stamp.

I've got a large amethyst bucket vase with slightly elongated but evenly-sized controlled bubbles.
I have been told it's wfs - I'm not sure I was convinced. It's very finely blown, much more so than a flared Webb controlled bubble bowl I have, but that's cased.
Jury's still out on my bucket - did wfs make flared rim buckets with controlled bubbles at all?

Well,

Don't be surprised if these turn out to be Edinburgh Crystal!  Of course both Edinburgh Crystal (Edinbugh & Leith) and Richardsons are linked directly to Thomas Webb, so none of the three would be surprising really  ;)

Why is it being referred to as a celery vase? Is it marked as such?

The shape is not generally associated with the description of 'celery' vase.

Looking at my Chance celery vase I see what you mean,a little smaller with straight sides, then again maybe it's for big celery and people with flair ::) :wsh:

A little more critical analysis Keith.... shape and therefore size are not the same - apart from that your quite right!

It's a bucket vase, and a bucket is the appropriate place for celery.
But does anybody know who made it?
I don't think I've ever seen coloured Edinburgh glass.

That's as may be Sue, but that doesn't make it a celery vase, only a useful/handy utensil that can be used for that particular function. Just as the fact that another has celery written on it to avoid the regulations regarding the production of luxury goods at the time. Just a device to get a vase through the vagaries of the law - still doesn't make it a celery vase as recognised in collecting circles.

Celery vases are traditionally footed vases and slimmer look to the one in question for this thread.

I'm sure that lots of folks will disagree with my description of a celery vase - particularly for the second quarter of the twentieth century onward?? However, that's always been my understanding of what people are looking for when they ask for them when buying for collections.

Nigel, your description is fine for the celery vases that really were for celery, but the vases that were just dumbing (with the word celery on them) down to avoid luxury goods tax are much more variable.
