Title: Czech…but who? Uranium / Iridescent
Post by: Mac on September 14, 2009, 12:18:28 AM
I am positive this piece is Czech but would like to land on a definitive answer on who the maker was.  It looks like it dates: 1930’s Measurements: 5” Colour: iridescent, furnace decorated uranium glass.
Thanks.

Wow!  That's totally stunning!   I'm not sure if it's the way you've lit it, but I can't recall seeing that opalescent (?) 'snakeskin' effect before...I'd like to know what that's called.  Lovely stuff!   :D

Thanks Max.
I have managed over the past few months to find pictures of 2 other pieces that look similar to mine.
It is quite a stunning piece.
Here are the examples compared to mine.

Hi Mac, Your piece looks Kralik to me. It is a great looking piece, as are the others you have pics of....

I am a bit concerned that it may have been cut down at some point as I look at it. If Kralik, It would most likely be Deco era furnace decorated and that time frame represents some of their better work. My concern is that the size of the foot is, IMHO, way out of scale to the bowl portion, making me wonder if it has been shortened due to damage.....  I keep looking at it and my inclination is to expect to see a bowl at least twice as large as what is there.....

Hi Craig. I had never considered that before. Here are more pictures of the piece, top and side. It doesn't look cut down to me but I am still new at this. Mac

Hi Mac,

You really can't tell from the top edge. A piece such as this would have been mold blown and would have originally had a ground and polished edge on the top. A well cut down piece would have the same edge. The only real way to know if it is cut down or not would be to see the same form with a  larger bowl.  I just feel like the base is too large for the size of the piece overall. I could be wrong though.....

I'd still be interested to know what Mike and Alfredo think  :)
