A small( palm-sized )paperweight in which the canes are suspended in the glass about a qaurter of the way up from the base.
Was wondering if this was indicative of when and where it was made?Any info would be greatly appreciated. thnx

Older Chinese, perhaps 1930s.
I have a few of these.

Hi Alton,
The position of canes within the dome is not indicitave of any particular maker or region. Some makers may seem to stick to one main positioning of canes but many makers have set canes in all sorts of positions.
It's usually the canes themselves that are a clue to maker (and age) and also the way the underside is finished.

thanks for the info. I had no idea it was that old, or that it was a style routinely employed.
This is a great forum, and I am continually impressed by the vast knowledge and expertise shown throughout this site.

That is a really tiny picture. Can you post a link to a larger picture so we can see whether it is contemporary Chinese or early Chinese or maybe even something better.
Thank you.

My opinion is that this is 1970s-1980s Chinese weight. The millefiori are not 1930s style.

I agree.
The blue-white-red cane is certainly one that appears in a lot of Chinese output from the 70s-80s period (and also up to current times).
