Title: Scilly vase with stretched canes
Post by: mrs vulture on September 21, 2009, 03:52:29 PM

This vase is clear glass and has what I think are called stretched canes in red white and blue. On the bottom is a very nice seal stamped 'SCILLY'. Its 6 inches tall (15cms)  The only reference to Scilly I can find is on the GMB  but the pictures have gone, does anyone know when this would have been made, it has got a white painted signature round the seal but it is so worn I can't read it.   Cheryl

They do not seem to have been documented much. Probably somewhere late 70s-80s

Your right about little information.  Attached are three photos of a vase I own.  Mine has both scratch marking and a label.   However, I can not find out anything either.  I am simply posting the pictures in case anyone else recognises them.

This jug has a Scilly stamp too.

Isles of Scilly crystal is likely a retail label.  Worth posting separately as it is possibly not same hand as the other pieces.

Here is another vase - this with the impresses mark and prunts. The actual profile picture is poor quality - I apologise.

Quite some variety they produced then by the look of it, is the vase opalescent? Did you find it in Oz Ross?

I can't remember John I bought it in February this year and I think it was off Ebay from GB.  Certainly the impressed mark makes it unlikely that it is merely a retail label as Frank originally suggested.  Left-field thought - Michaeel Harris was fond of impressed labels(IOW, Guernsey, Isle of Man) - I wonder if this was another of his start-ups?

There was a studio but seemingly lost in time but above label is probably retail.

Well talk about convoluted.  I have an iridescent apple marked Langsworthy.  It would have been made by David Langsworthy.  In Googling him it said he started as a painter but then got hot glass trained and set up in the Isles of Scilly!  He is now painting again.

A perfume bottle with millefiori and this time that paper label. Looks like a layer of grey (powder) under the millefiori, snapped mark at base, the stopper/dibber is long and nearly reaches the bottom.
