A little over 13 inches high, polished pontil mark with numbered base(K 2265),does this mean any thing to any body?Keith.
-
The meaning of number at bottom I cannot explain, seems to me that it is only for fabrication purposes or pattern.
I can inform a bit about Jan Žižka - perhaps here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_%C5%BDi%C5%BEka
From the date displayed at jug I would guess that this piece was fabricated in 1924 as commomerative jug Jan's death anniversary.

That type of mark points to the Harrach factory.
-
Thanks to both, interesting piece of history about Zizka ,don't remember that from school,Keith.
-
It could also be older - it could have been made about the time the statue of him was erected in 1884. I have a Harrach piece with a similar mark that I have always held to be from the 1880s to circa 1890.
See this page, which is a work in progress... :)

I would not expect 19th century dating, available Czech sources gives me the information about used Zizka's blazon.
It is written here http://cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_%C5%BDi%C5%BEka
that Zizka's blazon (with crayfish) was unknown up to the 20th century when was discovered dim seal with this symbol from 1378, the red colour was unsure, but was given according to supposed historical customs. I have briefly checked Czech web sites but I have not found more details when exactly in 20th century was seal found and from which date is this blazon associated to Žižka. But I expect, that this information should be accesible somewhere and will give us the lower border for dating of fabrication.

Many thanks, will try and do some more research,Keith.

Hi Jindrich,
from which date is this blazon associated to Žižka.
Early part of his life, as he was thought to have changed his coat of arms to a simple plain ground with a chalice emblem. Husitske muzeum in Tabor may help you further.

Can I just add that to me the style of the painting (and in particular the lettering) looks to be more 20th century than 19th century. Quite a lot of this kind of glass is decorated in a style that harks back to earlier centuries. In this case the helmet with the very narrow slot (so that the tip of the lance would not get into the knight's eye) is much more practical than the ornate but unwearable helmets seen in earlier centuries.

Thank you Marcus,
the chalice emblem is mentioned at several web resources, seems to me that red crayfish emblem had been simply fabricated and given to Žižka in 20th century. Musemin Tabor is good hint, I will try to call there tommorow and will report the result.
