The seller says that this paperweight (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5336261829&customid=&icep_item=250511112187&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) is in good condition, but I think it is cracked in two - or am I misinterpretting the effect of the facets?

Glad it is not just my eyesight! The weight is a Strathearn, I'm sure. They did facet some like this, but the couple I have seen were also signed and dated ('S 70' etc).

Course it is Strathearn .Moral is dont try to think while hungover . :-[ :-[ :-[ And i own a couple of those .
-
I'm certain that it is cracked - the internal crack is causing reflection of some of the light falling on the paperweight, and causing a shadow across the right-hand side of the picture; there is also distortion of the image of some of the canes. Had it been a facet or facets distorting the image, we would not see the straight line running across and to the right of the centre.
Shows the importance of annealing.....

I mentioned it to them politely , i dont think they liked it , smacked wrist and i was only trying to help . :-X
-
;D I guess they refuted that it was cracked then John?

It sold for a fiver to a French paperweight buyer who has given them very good feedback , so i for one got it wrong , no wonder they were stroppy . :-[ :-[ :-[ sorryeee
-
Just because someone paid £5 it does not mean it was not cracked
Someone might have bought it just to cut it in half to show the way paperweights are made.
I have two such examples of Ysart weights and people find them very interesting.

But do you think they would give glowing feedback if described as perfect when having a big crack , now i am more confused . ;D Just trying to be ever so humble

The five pounds and good feedback notwithstanding, it's still cracked.
I bought an old sulphide badge weight a while back that had a fracture in it. I knew it had a fracture and I got it anyway and left positive feedback.
