Title: HOGLUND DECANTER.. I THINK??? WITH STYLIZED FACE PRUNT
Post by: jonchellycain on October 12, 2009, 10:48:20 AM
Hi all
Had i pretty good day yesterday, spent 8 hours out at car boots and antiques fairs and got quite a nice haul, amongst which was this decanter at the last boot fair we went to for just £1.. i nearly fell over trying to get to the table at great speed!!
Ok its a gorgeous blue in colour (very similar to whitefriars kingfisher blue), 24cms tall, 20cms in circumference at its widest, the base has a deep concave shape, it has seams up the sides and one all the way around at the bottom. With a big chunky lip at the top and a pouring bit, V shaped at top and squared off U shaped underneath the lip.
On the front is a Prunt with a pressed face inside (very typical of Hoglunds work) jon says its a Viking, but in not sure its a chap with a crown (i think) and a big moustache and beard, quite feline like.
The inside of the neck is not rough at all so no signs of it ever having a stopper
as yet i havent had a chance to give it a good clean, but ive searched all over it and cant find a signiature..
Does everybody agree this is a Huglund piece? also do you think it should have had a stopper, ive been searching the net and through my books and cant find a similar shape or the face on the prunt in any of the designs. I have found on here a range of decanters which appears where made without stoppers, but now cant find it again.
I also found a second piece which is def Hoglund which i will add onto a different thread as im trying to work out a date for it.
many thanks in advance
michelle

Hi Michelle,
it´s a Holmegaard ´Viking´Decanter, designed by Ole Winther.
I´m sure someone else will be able to give you a date...  :)

The word 'fat' was added by the seller - it's not the proper name for the carafe.

They seem to originally have had wooden stoppers, hence no roughness inside the neck.
