Title: Help with id on ball vase
Post by: Margi on October 12, 2009, 10:57:42 AM
Could anyone please help with the id and age of this ball vase.  Do we call this irridescent.  I very beautiful reddish amber going to clear.  Some wear marks on the base.  I think this is very modern indeed but would like to know where it came from please.

An elderly gentleman friend of mine was looking at this vase today and explaining the way it had metal in it which confused me some what - does anyone have any further input on this please.

I think he must mean the iridescent surface finish, which is caused by spraying the hot glass with metallic salts. Not really metal.

Ah I see he nor I are the best at explaining ourselves.  The closest I can find to this vase although I know mine has a lot more ribbing is this http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.heiseymuseum.com/images/glass/ball-vases.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.heiseymuseum.com/&usg=__vxcTu3-J1vh8kps9nK_XKxQunW4=&h=255&w=200&sz=48&hl=en&start=51&um=1&tbnid=xIkMVfnPeM9I3M:&tbnh=111&tbnw=87&prev=/images%3Fq%3DHeisey%252Bball%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26start%3D40%26um%3D1
