Title: A Bagley Centrepiece/bowl? - ID = Sowerby 2487
Post by: Tinker-Taylor on October 13, 2009, 05:03:10 PM
Hello

I have a feeling this might be Bagley, but only because I have often seen larger but similar ones described as such.  Would love to know for sure.  I am hoping for glass books for Christmas, so I hope to save you so much trouble in 2010!

Anyway, it's 2¼" tall by just under 5¾" long and 3" wide.

Thanks in advance,
Stuart.

Sowerby fruit bowl, comes in non-uranium green as well plus all the usual pink, blue, amber and clear. Bagley uranium green has a bluish tinge; Sowerby is yellowish. Will find number later

Christine, thanks.  Really appreciated.  My first actual uranium glass from my last car boot of 2009.  Ace.

Chistine - If it is Sowerbys this would be S2487, not L2487.  The L version was much bigger.  You are probably right but I am a little hesitant about it but can't put my finger on just why.  Probably just senility.

Oops, didn't look at the size during my very quick look at the catalogue CD  :-[ It's much smaller than mine, so not fruit bowl either (mine holds real fruit  ;D though). I think I read centre piece and assumed, and we know what that does.

While I've got your attention Adam, would you look at this please http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,26104.msg144848.html#msg144848

Have tested this and it doesn't glow under UV.     Doesn't really matter though, as selling it either way.

 :)

Thanks all,
Stu.

Actually it does a bit (with my UV pen).  I suppose one would need a higher wattage UV to make it glow more intensely??????

Anyone?

 :) :) :)

It's not the wattage; it's the wavelength of the UV. It varies from LED to LED and striplight to striplight. If it does a bit and as it's Sowerby, it probably is uranium. My reaction from your picture was that it did. The edges had a sort of fuzzy green you learn to recognise. I don't think non-uranium Sowerby green glows at all, but can't lay my hands on a piece ATM. I think there's one in a box somewhere...

It might be worth lashing out on a slightly dearer UV light.

You're right... I went a bit bargain basement down at Maplins.  How tight am I?!
