Title: female torso art glass vase signed on base
Post by: jonchellycain on October 15, 2009, 11:27:08 AM
Hi all,
i picked this vase up at newmarket fair last weekend, i really love it, paid £12. The seller had no ideas on where it was from or who had made it
The main body of the vase.. well is a body, its a female torso, the front has a belly button and tops of the thighs and turn it round is the bottom. Its made from orange glass cased in clear glass with an applied clear glass foot, the base has a ground donw and semi polished pontil mark, with a signiture which i think reads CYNTHIA BEECH but it could be lydia beech or something similar.
does any body recognise this or have any clues on designer/maker?? ive only been able to find a Cynthia Beach-shelton who makes glass beads http://www.glassartbeads.com/ im currently waiting for a reply to see if it is one of her pieces.
The vase stands at 15cms tall, 12cms wide (wide hips)
many thanks in advance
michelle

Hi Michelle,

There was a Lydia Beech who worked for Isle of Wight Studio Glass for a while around the year 2000. The name came up recently in a discussion on the IOWSG Forum: http://www.isleofwightstudioglass.co.uk/SMF/index.php?topic=586.0 (http://www.isleofwightstudioglass.co.uk/SMF/index.php?topic=586.0)

Hope this helps.

Anton
