Title: Davidson Pearline??
Post by: Anonymous on October 28, 2005, 09:19:31 PM
I have here a salt given to me  by a friend who used to keep her radiator key in it, had new heating system installed so salt became redundant how sad is that

Now my questions is it Davidson and how old is it? Maybe one for Glen.

Thanks in advance

Doris

Doris, It looks as if could be Davidson, Lady Chippendale pattern. Have a look at this one and compare it with yours to confirm: http://www.theglassman.co.uk/9014large.htm

Wonderful, glad it helped Doris. :) I have the same item but in pink (in fact I have a pair of them) - so far I've only seen them in lemon pearline and in pink, but I'm sure they were made in other colours as well!

Doris — Davidson's name for this pattern was the "1908 Suite", Rd. No. 514848 of November 1, 1907.

"Lady Chippendale" is a modern name which is at best confusing, as Chippendale glass made by Davidson is quite different.

You will find the original Davidson pattern names in Chris & Val Stewart's website www.cloudglass.com and their newly published Davidson Glass — A History.

A lot of these  Davidson Pearline salts made it over the pond into American salt collectors' hands. The only pink one I've seen has not had the white(opalescent) rim, but was just transparent. Yellow may be the most prevalent color, but blue is surely a close second. They were made in 2 sizes.

My pink ones are just plain glass, not pearline. Pearline came in blue and primrose and white (sometimes called moonshine by collectors.). See Davidson Glass, a history, by Chris and Val Stewart for a fuller description.

My pink ones are the smaller size, my primrose pearline is the larger one. I'm still looking for a blue pearline and (she said wistfully) hopefully a moonshine one too!
