Hi,
I purchased this crudely etched wine or port glass yesterday on the assumption that it might be quite old even dare I say it Georgian or 17th century in origin. As stated it has a crudely etched bowl, a rough pontil mark, an irregular dented clumsy striated base, it leans slightly off the base and it has air bubbles. Although it looks bright in the photo's it has a bit darker shade than modern glass. It measures 4" tall. I did have a small Georgian ale glass with etched vine and hops design that I sold to a dealer a couple of years ago and the colour of that glass was similar to this.
Do you think it's old or a modern copy please.

as a general rule, in old glass the foot should be wider than the cup, so you can stack them. If the foot falls inside the cup, alas.

Hi Ivo,
Phew! only just, the bowl is 5.5cms wide and the base 5.8cms at narrowest, because it does vary between 5.8 and a minute fraction under 6. I was really suprised because the bowl looked as though it had to be wider.
