Title: Cookie jar id please
Post by: Margi on October 23, 2009, 02:09:17 PM
Hello I think this would be a cookie jar.  It does have a flat cork top for it.  The photos doesn't show the multi colours when the light hits it.  Could anyone kindly id for me please.

It is known among Carnival Glass collectors as "Daisy & Trellis" or "Praline" (implying the likely use: for storing pralines). Other examples have also been found in France, Germany and England. The pattern is also known in a lidded punch bowl with matching cups. It's very interesting to know that yours had a cork lid.

Thanks Glen much appreciated I had been umming and ahhing over it for a while.  It still has the cork lid I just papped it without as I think it looks nicer.  Was it not normal to have a cork lid? I wonder if it has been added by the previous owner it seems to fit rather well.  Off to go scour the net now - thanks again

I haven't seen an example with a cork lid, but then I haven't seen many examples at all. It makes sense that it would have had a lid like that, as it may well have originally been sold containing the "pralines". It's rather a scarce item. You mention you're off to scour the 'net - are you hunting for more info on it? I don't think you'll find much information anywhere else. If you do come across anything I'd be most interested to know what you find.

Post a picture of the cork; we may be able to decide if it is original or not

Yes Glen was off to scour to find any other info but so far nothing I shall keep looking though.  Was hoping to find the age on it.

Christine thanks also for looking here is the jar with the lid and the underside of the lid.

Not sure about the cork, even less sure about the hole!

Glen is "THE" world expert on carnival glass from all over the world. If she doesn't know the answer, than you can bet nobody else does either.

the cork looks like the decorative corks that are strung onto fishing float nets that used to hang in kitchens in the 70s - they separate the floats.
