Title: cranberry glass inkwell ?
Post by: peejyweejy on October 24, 2009, 02:32:07 PM
One of these recently sold on Ebay as a Whitefriars cranberry glass inkwell - does anyone know if this is correct. The pontil is sunken and smooth and it's nearly 7cm in height.  Also, you will see in the photos some rust marks which are inside, are these caused due to the composition of the glass or the fact that ink may have been used in it or..........
Thanks Pauline

Nothing to do with W/Fs whatsoever .    I promise . :spls:
sometimes they used a wooden stick or paddle to shape the glass when hot , you can get a stain from this i believe.

would agree with john, definatly not whitefriars, the rust marks i would imagine is just from whatever has been kept in the jar maybe full of nuts and bolts or paperclips (ive seen worse done to pretty glass )

Thank you so much for your replies - I was sceptical about it being Whitefriars, I had scoured the website and found nothing. Poor little jar  >:(
