Title: Chicken decanter: Danish or Italian?
Post by: Ivo on October 25, 2009, 03:45:36 PM
When I saw this decanter I thought I had seen something similar once from Denmark. But on closer inspection it looks more like another piece of Empoli Verde. Any ideas on this one?

ah I thought for once I may be able to help in return but what I had seen was this link.
I hope it works - sadly a duck not a chicken.
Kind regards

I agree the green looks like Empoli. Is the stopper the type that takes a plastic cuff to fit the bottle? The insert looks small. If it needs the plastic, I'd say there is a very good chance it is Empoli.

Great, that is a positive ID for Empoli Verde. This type of production dates from the 40s thru the 60s, so the date mentioned in the link is quite a bit off. And no, plastic stoppers were introduced for mechanically made glass in the late seventies - and are never seen on handmade items like this one.
