Title: Mustard-Colored Cased Glass Lamps... Go Boom!
Post by: Pinkspoons on October 31, 2005, 12:40:47 PM
I've noticed a huge increase in the prices of really quite generic 1970's cased glass lamp bases and ceiling lights recently on eBay. Several lights that were barely scraping £5 before seem to be suddenly going for £30-£40+ this week. It's most peculiar.

Not that I'm complaining, because one of them was mine being sold. It's still a little perplexing, though.  :?

I must admit, it does look very nice with its shade on, and lit. I think that's really what sold it.

I suppose it shows what a difference a half-decent photo can make...

That's a cool looking lamp Pinkspoons - what is the shade made from?

It's card-backed fabric on a metal frame. I bought it separately from the lamp and it was my ceiling lightshade for a few months until I managed to get a gorgeously retro Holmegaard lightshade - with original labels. Mmm.  :D

I posted a few pics aaaages ago when I first bought it, but Tinypic tossed them into the ether. But I've a few more of before I hung it, but they're not very good.

Here is an Orrefors Lamp base. I have a few – this one I sold but regret it as it had a perfect label with ‘Designed by Carl Fagurlund’ on the white fitting, which I believe was also his design, note ‘Orrefors 1566’ on the metal top below the white fitting matches what is etched to base ‘Orrefors 1566’ – I have wondered what the blue label with the white ‘S’ represents, ‘Sweden’ or is it a safety code thing?

These are lovely lamps but they are not cheap and have obviously seen the good end of ‘glass lamp base’ price increases as mentioned

See, now that's what I call a nice lamp. Wouldn't say no to a couple of them gracing my abode.

I'm making do with some Caithness lamps until I can get my grubby mits on some Holmegaard Symmestrisk lamps.

Dare I ask how much you're selling your lamps at?

I'll try hard not to get tempted!

Hi

That was the last one I am selling :(  - I am keeping the two I have left, sorry about that - I actuallly have not sold on eBay for months now, I am more of a collector these days

They do sometimes come up on eBay at about £100.00 - the one I sold (shown) sold for about that

I like your lamp base very Holmegaard looking, do you know who the maker is

No idea who made mine, or indeed where it was made. I described it as "In the Holmegaard / Scandinavian style", but the colour's not right for genuine Holmegaard.

I've seen lamps in this style and colour described as being Italian, though.

...And those descriptions were correct!

I've just acquired one in bright bright orange with it's original Made In Italy paper label... as well as its very bizarre-looking original wire shade holder (but no original shade, alas).  :(

I'll put photos up soon, if anyone is interested?  :)
