Title: Silver plated Crystal Claret Jug, English? Any experts out there?

Havent got a great knowledge of Claret jugs, they always seem very popular, and i see a lot of
very poor quality ones , but this one caught my eye in a charity shop, the plated top is very
well made, just fading a little, looks like copper underneath ?, crystal has come up after a good clean,
beautifully, bottom half, large diamond cut, top half, smaller pyramid cut, highly polished.
A lion finial, Bacchus spout. Sadly there is no makers mark! 12 1/2 inches tall.
Any guidance welcome.

and I don't think this will help either, Andy.       Apparently EPNS started its life way back in the 1840's, not that I'm suggesting yours is C19, looks too clean.  Trouble is that lion thumbpieces and Bacchus Mask spouts seem to have been a design feature on claret decanters for eons - why the lion, I don't know (just perhaps implying British).     You don't mention the base  - is it star cut or plain?   And to what extent, if any, is there wear?    Paul S.

thanks for the reply, its got a deep star cut base, and there is plenty of age wear, i would
think its easily about 100 years old, probably not earlier, so circa 1900, im surprised at the
lack of any makers marks on it anywhere, im thinking its most likely British.
It deserves to be used!  :cheers:

Andy  -  is the metalwork actually marked EPNS?   If not, then your piece might not be British.   Paul S.

not a sausage, ive just looked in every nook and cranny with a magnyfier, and nothing  :'(
