Rather a boring little 5 1/2 inch grey/green vase, but beautifully engraved all around with
buildings that look to be very Dutch to me, hoping someone may recognise the city??
I think theres a very good chance the vase is from one of the Dutch companies.
Lovely 99p charity shop buy :D
Im at a loss why someone would spend hours on the engraving, on such a plain vase, or am i
missing the point?
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy, how can you call that boring ? i think its so nice .
-
Its one, thats better in the photos than real life. I have moved it to a lighter place so the
engraving shows better!
Its growing on me ;D
Andy
photo added, still a bit dull! :-\

Surely not Dutch - we think you may be looking at Lübeck, it has a twin tower romanesque cathedral and a Spittal with 4 towers. There are stepped gables which you will find in many Hanseatic towns. The vase itself looks WMF and the engraving is delightful...

Lübeck should have rang a bell...
The engraving´s by Carl Rotter in Lübeck, here´s a labelled piece:
ebay.de (http://cgi.ebay.de/CARL-ROTTER-VASE-LUBECK-HANSE-STADT-GLAS-KUNST-KRISTALL_W0QQitemZ370290193105QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGlas_Kristall?hash=item563703f2d1)
I don´t know if they produced glass themselves or used blanks from other
companies though.
p.s.: Hope you´re fine, get well soon!

Thanks at the same time for getting close to identifying this one - with a shoal of fish swimming around the vase. The vase, I think, may have been produced by Joska and the colour is Rauchtopaz.
-
Not sure this ID is correct, but - who would make up things on ebay?
more fish (http://cgi.ebay.de/Tropfenfoermige-Vase-mit-Fischen-Carl-Rotter-Luebeck_W0QQitemZ190349159986QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGlas_Kristall?hash=item2c51b1ae32)

Ivo et al — What is the date range for these vases?

Rotter has been around in Silesia since 1870, and moved to Lübeck after the war. I think these smoke vases date from the seventies.

Thanks Ivo.
