Saw a gorgeous large (14") vase with a very neat small signature 'cenedese'. Did not photograph the signature but here is the vase.
-
The company Cenedese marked many of their pieces, but it would have been done but one of he workers at the furnace.

it looks too small and neat to be someone's signature to me David.
thanks for that.

That's one of the reasons I avoided using the word signature in my reply.
Here's an example from a scavo vase. The marking looks much bigger in the photograph than it actually is. To give you some idea of scale, the base is about 3" across.
David
P.S. Just noticed that in my first post I wrote "but one of the workers." I meant to write "by one of the workers."

I've seen many of the more recent Cenedese pieces with signatures. Does anyone know if they started signing all of their larger pieces in the later years? The vase looks like it could be the work of Cenedese to me.
-
To answer your question Anita, it is very possible that the more recent pieces are signed. Artifice (He is on the Fossilfly forum) and I had a discussion lately about a piece I have that is signed by Cenedese and Albarelli (diamond point signed). I have been trying to date the piece with no such luck and he helped me date it sometime between 1992 - 1994 when it was made. So this is very feasible that their more recent work could be signed (diamond point signed). I wish I could post my vase but due to my camera being crappy I would not be able to capture a good pic of the signature but here is a current piece I found on Ebay.

I also just did a quick search on Ebay and found this piece. It looks to be a bit more newer than the 70's though so it may be a newer piece but that is my opinion but it is signed as well.

To go back to Ardy's original question. Yes, Cenedese pieces were often signed, but not by "him." Gino trained as a glass blower, but only designed and did not make glass in the 50's. The current company was a result of a reorganization of in 1973 by Gino's son, Amelio, following the death of the father, and renamed Gino Cenedese & Figlio, still in business, I think, at http://www.cenedesegino.it/eng/index.htm
My recollection is that Amelio is a businessman and administrator. The picture in Ardy's photo I would think is later Cenedese, 80-90's.
The Albarelli connection would seem to be from about 1992, as Articifice suggests, when Cenedese bought the name Seguso Vetri D'Arte from Albarelli, who had owned the company since 1976. Albarelli kept the property. I would guess that Cenedese & Albarelli was a short lived business arrangement, despite producing what seems to have been some quality pieces.
There is a company on eBay, Design-and-arts, who offer stock somehow connected to this 1993 merger. They have a fair amount of SVA and Cenedese. I once saw pictures of their warehouse. I'd love to be left in there for a while.

Tami, this marking looks similar to the one I saw on the weekend. I hadn't looked at much by Cenedese but this piece I like.
I was told that the silver base that shows between the swirls is done with mercury is that true?

David, I did check out the Design & Arts Ebay store and they really do have some awesome pieces. Unfortunately, it would probably cost a mint to have a peice shipped to the U.S. Boy that stinks.

I give two thumbs up to Design & Arts. Their auctions start at low prices, so one can get some real deals even with the cost of shipping. They are on my recommended seller list.
-
I bought a piece recently through Design and Arts...it would of been two but someone came in with a bid at the last minute and topped me at 2:30am Aussie time ...the shipping cost me more than the piece itself...LOL...but only took 3 days to get to OZ...some really great pieces on their...would definitely buy again...except when the exchange rates go back to 'normal'...
However...I was a bit annoyed that the auction started in US currency then converted to Euros at the end...which ended up costing me a little bit more...but definitely well worth it... ;D

The contemporary pieces by Cenedese are normally signed (engraved). As in 99% of the glassorks the master glassmaker or (as in this case) the designer/manager/owner don't sign the glass , but they are engraved by one of the worker.
Instead the vintage pieces (the acquariums are great) were not signed.
Sincerely
Alex

Hi Alex or anyone that could help with a question about CENEDESE. As posted by CathyG on June 22 of 2005, She shows in her first photo(of 3 posted), a cenedese ribbon cane decanter with a sticker that says "MVRANO Cenedese VETRI" It is silver & blue and sort of shaped as shield. Would any of you know what dates that sticker was used? Any help would be greatly appriciated, as I have a bowl with the identical colors and sticker as the pic that CathyG posted ( red & turquoise ribbon canne) that was our mothers, and wondering the approx. age of it.

Ginogrammy:
It's really hard to tell from the label, especially Cenedese. They've kept to the same basic design for their label for quite a long time, 1950-1990, with minor variations. Some were simple design changes. They ran out labels and had some new ones designed. Some had to do with reorganization of the company, which happened six times accompanied by minor name changes, all using the central name Cenedese.
If you had a picture of the piece and the label it might be possible to give a guess as to date. In fact, I'd promise I will guess if you post some pictures. (I'll also tell you what chance I have of being right.)

Hi Tam Bam:
Have you tried this tip here that I posted? Some others have found great success with posting pics here for close-up. Worth a try.

MODS: I know this post is in the cafe -- but as a reference tip -- I think maybe that link should be kept under techie tips as we have seen some Great shots by Paul S., myself, and others using this tip.
I think it has really helped. I think this is worth keeping (and not getting deleted) for future reference to help others. I am glad I am able to input something to the board too.
Thanks

Hi David! In my last post, I am referring to the MVRANO Cenedese VETRI sticker that is on the photo that CathyG showed that she posted on June 22nd,2005. the photo shows that sticker on a Cenedese ribbon canne decanter. What I was asking was as to what year that item she is showing was made, as i have the identical item. Thanks so much for any information or guess on that item she shows with that label. Diana

Whoops, I meant David or anyone that could identify the photo of the item that CathyG posted on june 22-2005 of a ribbon canne decanter with a sticker that says " MVRANO Cenedese VETRI". Hoping anyone out there would be have an idea when her decanter was made or when this label was used? Thank you ANYONE! Diana

Diana:
I hope you don't mind a suggestion. If you're referring to another thread on the GMB, it's easier for others to find it if you post the url. For CathyG's piece you mention, it's http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v405/glass47/cenedesestickier.jpg
There's not enough detail in that picture to tell me more than the sticker tells me, 1950 onwards. I understood that you were asking about Cathy's piece and label , and were saying you had a piece the with the same colours. I still think it would be hard to do without a picture of the actual piece, either yours or CathyG's, and, even then, there might be two different dates. Cenedese made the designs at different times. Cathy's label looks brand new in 2005, which makes me suspect the decanter was made in late 80's 90's. But that doesn't tell you when your bowl was made.

Thanks so much for your time and thoughts David! That is a bit confusing for me that those stickers that say MVRANO Cenedese VETRI were used from 1950's till today, yet they are imposssible for me to find another with that sticker, and I do know my piece has to quite old, just not sure age or why this sticker seems so difficult for me find, especially since you said could be new. I am really new at this but will hopefully catch on better in time. I accidently ran onto CathyG's photo just trying find cenedese, (as I have a figure that I believe may be Cendese), and was so astounded when I saw her photo. I mailed photo's of my figure to Javier,(SVAZZO), as I had told him about my lady figure so lovely and have been looking for another like her for years and he said looks like a real quality piece, guessing perhps barovier or A.VE.M. but really no idea, as has never seen one like her either, so I just have very lovely mystery glass! I have searched on ebay, and pretty much any place you can think of for years, so guess she'll alway be a mystery.
