Title: Amber engraved vase. Scandanavian or Asian?
Post by: uphoosier on November 02, 2009, 12:35:59 AM
The form and glass bring Scandanavian makers to mind, but the engraved design looks Asian.  I welcome opinions regarding maker and origin.  It is about 20cm tall.  Thanks for looking.

Looks as if the technique is sandblasting and I see what you mean: it looks very Chinese, the little bridge looks especially un-scandinavian.

Do you have a cleaner pic of the base???...it seems quite dirty...with flashback...this is an odd piece...looks japanese on the pic...but the colour and shape is odd...is the neck polished of the rim???...

The bottom does have significant scratching (that can happen in a couple of days) and is very finely polished.  The top of the rim is also polished, and the inside and outside edges of the rim have a slight bevel and are polished.  Obviously very thick glass.
