What an intriguing little piece of glass this. It is only 3.75" in height, the white bits are just paint spots that I've not yet cleaned off. It is very thick and quite heavy for such a lttle thing. The base is smooth with two little, raised dots but on the inside. It is clearly some sort of burner but for what - insense maybe? Any comments pease!

It's a spirit burner, usually used with methylated spirits. I used to have one in my chemistry set. My old Cona coffee maker also comes with one.

Wow what a quick respone, thank you. Do you have any idea how old this one might be?

I think these have been in use circa 1920s - circa1950s - but do keep a few dozen years either way in reserve.

Thanks Ivo - will do!
