Title: is a ground pontil unusual??

wouldn't normally be here, except  -  from memory all of the wts. I have seen in charity shops and boot sales have flat bottoms, and as you can see, this one doesn't.    I don't remotely collect wts. - too much other glass to lust after  -  but wud be very interested in whether this is unusual, or common.   I thought it had a sort of wfrs. saphire look to the colour - although appreciate it is not really one of theirs.    thanks for looking.    Paul S.

Quite a few Paperweight makers polish their weights in this manner. Normally a sign of quality as it is a much longer process than the normal flat base. Richard of Okra Studio Glass always finishes his weights in this manner

Mike  - sincere thanks for the enlightenment, in which case I shall hang on to this one.  Your help is appreciated.   Oddly, in contradiction of your comments re quality, the dome is slightly poor in terms of smoothness, and shows the 'ripple' rings coming out from the top down.    Paul S.

johnphillip  -  apologies for the late response.     Oh, so it is actually wfrs. -  I am surprised  -  it doesn't of course look anything like the very ornate examples shown in Jackson's book, which is the only ref. sourse that I have for wfrs. pprwts.   Do you have any idea of a date range for my one please??    thanks    Paul S.

Hi Paul i believe you mean amber or gold amber  not tangerine .
