Good morning to everyone :D
Would say it is neither French nor European at all:

I spotted this one on David's (member of GMB?) images of Westmoreland glass, simply missing its lid?

What a jolly piece ;D
I wonder what species of bird it is ? that may help with its origin.
(I thought it may be a Ptarmigan, scottish snowy lover, but ive looked and its not that)
Regards

I think it's a chick (as in chicken) popping out of an egg

Youre probably right Christine,
i was just trying to be a little more exotic ;)

Christine asked one of us from a US glass board to take a look at this. It appears to be a Westmoreland #231 Sleigh with Egg Cover first produced between 1900-1904 & later in the 30's & 40's. Another company (Dithridge) also produced a Sleigh Chick Covered Match Box in 1901 & the differences are the rear of the sleigh in the Dithridge has a pronounced rise toward the back while the Westmoreland is more horizontal plus the Dithridge has two runner supports while Westmoreland has three. Unfortunately I do not have a Dithridge reference to compare the two & frankly do not know who one would count supports. The Westmoreland book example seems to match up with this one. Someone else may know better than I how to determine what a "support" means. Hope this helps. Ken

It seems to me that the runner supports are the straightish bits coming down from the bowl to the "runner" (the bit at the bottom that curves up at the front)

Its Westmoreland...found a Dithridge one on line for comparison. Ken
