Title: VASE DECO PM SOUFFLE
Post by: Margi on November 07, 2009, 02:07:56 PM
Hello I keep looking at this glass vase when in this junk shop  and my daughter would like to buy it for my b'day however I would hate for her to spend her money and it be another chinese piece.  Does anyone recognise it or is it a pile of pants as she would say. http://www.troc.com/fr/pid36-prid6710905270-vase-deco-pm-souffle.html
Unfortunately no pic of the base but it is flat highly polished and has a highly polished quite large pontil mark.

Many thanks in advance

Could it be loetz? also exactly same base as the one in question.

Are you referring to the red vase with dark mottling at the site? I don't know who made it. It doesn't resemble any of the Loetz pieces that I am familiar with. The 23 euro asking price for this piece says a lot.

Yes the red mottle one it has been in the shop for a while it was originally on at 40euros and each week they reduce down.

sorry I should have also put this link on showing a base of a Loetz, the mottled one has the same base but I am sure lots of others do. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.glasshound.com/images/308a.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.glasshound.com/Loetz_glass_vase_tango_powolny_308.html&usg=__dXtTl5pUCu3Y1k6Wq3wvjjAeEwc=&h=617&w=600&sz=31&hl=en&start=16&um=1&tbnid=kcB5MxAioMxZHM:&tbnh=136&tbnw=132&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dred%2Band%2Bblack%2Bvase%2Bloetz%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1

The round, recessed, polished pontil was used by Loetz and several other glass companies around the world. I've seen it on good pieces and less expensive Chinese pieces, so it isn't useful by itself. Loetz has certain decors and shapes of their vases. www.loetz.com shows many of the decors. Glassmakers that worked at Loetz did make some shiny pieces, particularly after 1920, but I can't think of any of the decors that I would consider particularly glossy. The vase in the troc link looks very glossy to me.
Title: Red Squat vase with aventurine
Post by: Margi on February 01, 2010, 07:30:30 PM
Good evening

Well after much research I am still stumped on this vase, which I am now calling a squat vase.  It is a much deeper red than shown, no matter what setting I put the camera on it is not photographing very well.  The mottling is black with bluish aventurine.  White interior and with a quite large ground out polished pontil.  There  is also faint rings around the vase as if been spun if that makes sense.
Any advice much appreciated

Hi Andy
I know its not very old but do think it is very well made especially as someone has taken time on the finishing of the pontil and the weight and total finish.  I am trying to make comparisons with various to eliminate and hopefully come to an end result.  No marks of any sort be it age wear or scratches dings and no hidden signatures unfortunately.
Thank you for taking the time to look.
