Title: Art Deco Pressed Glass Bowl c1930 - Niemen?
Post by: Dettmer on November 10, 2009, 03:48:44 PM
Hi,

Art Deco pressed glass bowl - Height 1 1/2" / Width 6 1/8" / Rim Diameter 4 3/4"

I thought it was possibly French. I've recently been advised it might be a copy of a piece produced by Niemen of Poland.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Dettmer

http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/index2.html have this bowl in green under "Unknown Bowls".  Pamela hasn't identified it yet.  I found this out when I bought a green one a couple of months ago.

 ;)

Incidentally, sorry for not linking to the actual bowl.  One reason is that I don't know how to, and the other is that I can't find it on the site right now... maybe it has been identified...?

Hi Dettmer,
here´s a topic about the Niemen bowl. Indeed the design of your bowl appears to
be ´inspired´ by it.

Stu, opening the item in question in a new window does the trick. If you watch the
adress bar, you´ll see the difference.  :)

Actually looking at this and the other bowl and comparing to the Niemen catalogue, it is not so clear - In many ways this bowl looks closer to the illustration in the catalogue (especially the pattern detail in the centre), but then the handles are reversed. The problem is the catalogue images are line drawings and are not always entirely accurate in their portrayal of detail, so it is hard to say with 100% certainty.

As to who inspired whom, I wouldn't know, suffice to say that the Niemen catalogue does show what appear to be copies of patterns by Scailmont, Bagley, Verlys and Walther...

Stu and Dirk,
it is even easier and faster to 'right-click' the .gif image in front --> copy the link address and paste into your reply here  :comp: :girlcheer:

::)  No wonder Germany beat the UK in the international IQ tests recently!  Makes me feel like a Mini Metro amongst BMW 7 Series (or even Bentleys now that they may as well be German!)

On a serious note, however, thank you Pamela!

 :) :)
