I found this bottle on the fleamarket here in Zurich and am wondering whether it is as old as it looks. I also would like to know whether I am right in assuming it is an old champagne-bottle because of the added irregular glass ring below the opening . Is it of any value? See the description in the link to my facebook album below.
My doubts are raised because there is very little wear and tear apart from the dust in the recesses. On the other hand, the surface is by no means smooth so it looks handblown, the neck has irregular lines running upwards as if it had been pulled into its shape.
I have three more that are all of a different shape and colour. They all have a deepset pontilmark; however, with two of them there is a bump rather than a place where the glass was cut off.

Are there any mould lines it is difficult to tell from the photo and it could help date the bottle,Keith

Machine made. But could be oldish. Pictures lack clarity, try daylight.

when the seam extends over the lip to the top as in the photo, the bottle was made in a fully automatic machine - introduced shortly after 1900. All bottles have a ring of thicker glass around the neck, not for fixing wires but as a fortification to withstand pressure from the cork.

I realize the pictures are not much help. However, I doubt that the bottle was machine made since there is NO seam and the collar is definitely handmade being very irregular almost like a bit of clay stuck to the rim. I got a response from Reggy Lynch www.antiquebottles.com who says it was probably made around 1870 but is not very valuable.
thanks for your ideas nevertheless!
