Title: Unusual red glass decanter. Can you identify it?
Post by: cybrarian on November 28, 2009, 09:54:02 PM
My grandmother left me this red glass decanter.  She had it for a long time.  It is quite unusual, almost looks like it is pieced together with many different pieces of glass.  It has three indentations, like finger holds and is not quite true to shape.  I do not know anything about glass but I have always liked this.  Any ideas on when this might have been made?  Is there a name for this type of glass?  I did some research but came up empty.  Thanks for help to a novice.

The technique is called crackle glass. The hot glass is plunged into water, which cracks the surface. It's then reheated to reseal it.
