Title: Help with Maker please................
Post by: Patrick on December 08, 2009, 04:48:28 PM
Hi,
I am interested to know if anyone can suggest a maker for this set of glasses. They where described as Venetian early 20th century. They are soda glass and the auctioneer tells me they have an interesting history as they came from a Guernsey residence of note - Castle Carey.

Ironically they are currently sitting in a van on the quayside at St peters Port waiting for the sea conditions to change so that the ferry can sail to Portsmouth.

Regards,
Patrick. ( Permission has been given for use of this image )

Early twentieth Venetian seems to tie in with shape decoration weight & set - I'd think Salviati but it does not have to be. Good auctioneer!

Thank you Ivo...........
I am looking forward to getting them, I think the large goblet is 8" tall and there are 9 each size but only 8 of the liqueur.

Regards, Patrick.

Hi,

The colour and the style of engraving reminds me of Orresfors, around the turn of the 1920's. The waves are very much like the 'Clouds' pattern by Simon Gate. The style of some of their glass ware was indeed Venetian influenced.

Just something else worth checking maybe?

The problem is other companies bought Salviati blancs and decorated them, i have a very nice Salviatl glass decorated by Moser .

Hi,
I have finally got around to taking some pics of the set of glasses.............  Very fine and lightly blown with the bowl having an internal snapped pontil and foot with snapped pontil. The engraving has good detail ( even to the scales on the dolphins ) and polished optics to the  cabin windows and lighthouse lens. The waves have wonderful movement with all glasses including the liqueurs having identical scenes.
I have searched the internet for images of similar glasses but have yet found none any help would be much appreciated

Regards, Patrick.
