Title: I.D. for vintage thick wall and footed "FISH" vase
Post by: sectioned106 on December 14, 2009, 06:38:38 PM

Hi, can anyone identify the maker of this vase please?

It is 9 inches tall and 5 inches wide at the rim.  The rim is very thick at 0.75 inches.

The foot is 4 inches wide and 0.5 inches thick.  At the centre is a 1.25 inch wide neatly polished out pontil mark.

(There is no signature on the base).

I don't know if it is the thickness of the glass, but next to a couple of other fish vases I have (e.g. a Baxter Whitefriars one) the glass is not as bright (perhaps indicating a different lead crystal composition?).

I know Scandinavians made a lot of fish vases, but I also know some English glassworks did them as well.  As I don't generally collect the former, it would be nice if it turned out to be the latter!

Looks Scandinavian, 40's to 50's. I'll have a look at a few books.
