If only this paperweight (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574631383&toolid=10001&campid=5335820906&customid=&icep_item=180450420769&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229508&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) were Baccarat  (rather than Chinese) I would be much better off!

Sadly, the seller tells me he has a letter to go with it proving the identity as Baccarat, and will relist with the 'proof'. Oh dear....

I guess they would be Sus Volans?

Well, I told the seller very politely that even having a letter of authenticity did not make it a Baccarat weight, but I got a rather brusque response.  Maybe the seller needs advice from a few more collectors...

Hmmm - tenuous link there, Frank! The Royal Baccarat Scandal was about cheating at the card game See this Wiki link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Baccarat_Scandal) for (presumed reasonable) info.

A good story, though, based around a set of three paperweights and intrigue set within a background of emporers and revolutions, is: The Curse of the Imperial Paperweights, by George N. Kulles. The paperweights were said to be special one-offs made at St Louis (rather than Baccarat - so another tenuous link there :)) after the factory had ceased its normal 19th century paperweight production. All who came into contact with the paperweights died in mysterious circumstances. It's a good read with a better, and more plausible, mystery than any of the Chinese-turned-into-Baccarat paperweight ones.

It will probably help it get a good price though  ::)

Let Roy know if they do list it that way so he can get a copy of the cert.  :-[
