Title: Unusual handled mug! Holmegaard/whitefriars coloured glass.
Post by: BRADBURY7308 on December 31, 2009, 07:42:55 PM
Loved this little glass when i saw it has a really nice quirky handle hope someone may recognise, The glass is very thick and the base has a nice polished pontil the main body of the mug has ridging going down the glass in concentric order which you can feel on the outside of the body. The colour reminds me of holmegaard or some whitefriars pieces ive owned anyon like to hazzard a guess?? :hiclp:

It's neither Whitefriars nor Holmegaard, but the handle is in very much the same style as a jug that I posted a while back (although that's not immediately apparent from the photos I posted):

Unfortunately there was no conclusion on a manufacturer.

This may sound very stupid but saw something today which reminded me of your glass so just dug your thread back out.  The item I saw was of very similar colouration but didn't have the polished pontil and had a small spout, it also had the vertical ridging - the label said made in spain.

Thankyou for replying i loved this mug daft i know its just so well made heavy thick glass and the colour is superb i have some scandinavian glass i use for drinks when people come around they always comment on the colour its stunning that kind of midnight colour like holmegaard, This mug seems quite old maybe victorian although the colour doesnt really fit my way of thinking for that sort of age? The piece you listed pinkspoons is lovely very modernistic in design very nice line etc is it thick glass? do you have any suspicions on a country of manufacture. thanks again dan.

The glass on mine is about 3-4mm thick - so it's not a terribly heavy jug. I suspect it's European - which is probably about as close as I'll ever get to pinning it down.
