Title: Tick on glass
Post by: Margi on January 02, 2010, 03:55:46 PM
Happy new year all, hope you all had a good one.

Infront of me I have a large, presume, fruit bowl which has a tick on the bottom a bit like the nike tick.  Has anyone seen this before please and if so where?  I am assuming it is modern but also has look and feel of pate de verre or maybe its just frosted and I have had too many wines lately.  Pic added later but don't thinkt he tick will phtograph very well.
TIA

Evening

Back from shopping so pics now added.
31.5cm wide
8.25 high and weighs approx 3.4lbs

Peach swirl decoration.  The underside has a leaf decoration or at least i think its leaf.

Best pic of the tick I could get.

Any thoughts appreciated

Thanks
Margi

Can't see the tick, hopefully the glass does not get Lyme disease.

Margi,

Took the liberty of playing with your tick pic.

Gareth

interestingly, because of the way the brain expects light to come from the top of the picture, it now looks like a raised tick, not a depression !

Looks like it is just a random effect, not a mark.

Thanks Frank, I thought it had been purposefully done as it is central to the base of the bowl and very obvious to the touch and the naked eye.  Let's dismiss the tick for a while, do you have any suggestions on who or when please?

A new thought could this be a light shade gone wrong.  The centre is not central it is out by approx 3cm on one side.  Doesn't answer the tick query but just a thought.  And the leaves have now decided they are palm leaves.

As it is moulded the offset is deliberate and shape is not good for a lampshade. No idea on maker but doubt it has much age.

Thanks for your thoughts Frank.  I do think modern myself as mentioned in first post.  Has got me confuddled.  I think for now I shall pass and if I see anything similar I will check for labels etc.  Thanks again to bed it goes.

I think Herner Glas, whoever they are, is a very good candidate for this. I saw a labelled vase in a charity shop in just this thick glass with white and peach swirls.

Thank you for suggesting a possibility Christine.  Just been looking on the net for Herner glas and it does say it is German and have been in operation for 40 years and manufacture giftware and lighting.  Unfortunately at the moment it is not allowing me to connect further into any of the websites (server down) I don't know if it is my end or theirs.  Will have more of a dig and delve later.  At the moment it is sat on the dining table with a Christmas plant in it.

Well had a good surf and all the sites linked to Herner are no longer available.  Only found one vase on hood.de and it was rather plain and boring.  All other sites that I have looked at are focused on the lighting products.
