Title: Advertising/picture mirrors
Post by: Margi on January 04, 2010, 12:43:47 PM
Good afternoon all

I have purchased these mirrors a few weeks ago and really can't shed any light on any apart from Sarah Bernhardt.  Is there anyone that could kindly help me determine country of origin on any of them and also help with ageing.  I would suggest if I may, that some of them are quite old, well old to me anyway due to the way they have been damaged, damp marks (think damp) etc.
I am thinking the two girls with pink flowers have a certain oriental look but not quite if that makes sense.
Many thanks
Margi

Hi,

I cannot help with the maker of these mirrors, but this type of mirror was very popular in the early 1970s - particularly with students.

Regards

Chris

Thanks Chris, I do think the framed Sarah is fairly recent ie 70'2/80's but personally think older for the others.  I was thinking for the two ladies with the flowers possibly chinese/japanese/asia somewhere, the black and white one, please correct me if wrong is of a 20's flapper, going on hairstyle.  Please people do jump in and kick me down but preferably when I am prepared  ;D

No, they're all 1970s. Definitely. I remember them well. The first is in the style of Art Nouveau, the second and third are in the style of Art Deco. The fourth is pure 70s.

I was going to ask her if she considered the '70's old. I remember winning one at our local summer exhibition at a bingo game.

Morning peeps  ;D bright eyed and bushy tailed here.  Thanks all I don't consider 70's old I would put that under fairly recent  ;D although I was only born early 70's so personally never won any tehe! Come to think of it I am sure my dad has some somewhere.  Thanks again.  I have to confess though I really do like the black and white one or maybe I should keep that quiet.
