Title: small green vase- round markings to base - ID help please
Post by: jakgene on January 05, 2010, 02:46:37 AM
Hi all - you have been so helpful I thought I'd ask another!

I bought this very recently, just described as a specimen vase. It is a small green vase (just under 6" /14 Cm). It looks scandinavian in style (to me anyway!) , and has some strange markings on the base. It has 3 circular blobs - quite smooth, and a longer mark between them - almost looks like a face. maybe just accidental, but if anyone can identify them I'd appreciate it.

Thanks  :)

received my copy of Fire and Sea in the mail today . Page 185 shows an Aseda decanter in the same green and very similar shape.(described as like a snake that swallowed an animal) I wondered if perhaps mine is a strange glass to go with such a decanter rather than a vase??

My instincts (for what they are worth) say no, if the rim around the top of your vase is flat from being polished rather than rounded then definitely not.

Difficult to judge from photographs but the colours of the two items do not look to be exactly the same.

Sadly, I am of no constructive help at all....

thanks for the comment John. Looking at the real thing next to the book the colours seem very similar to me - but of course colours in photos do distort somewhat. The rim is rounded, not polished. Would be a very strange shape fro a glass though - very small opening at the top.

I agree it is unlikely. Thanks Again. JAK

The marks are marks and not accidents, and not Aseda to my knowledge. Perhaps this would be better on the general board. Mod? Colour matching can be useful but in in combination with other clues.
