Title: Unknown Glass Vase, Charity Shop Find.
Post by: davidfish1212 on January 12, 2010, 07:07:30 PM
Hi,
Today i found this fab looking vase in my local charity shop. For me, i think its a great looking vase and would love to know if any one knows anything about it. It stands 7" tall, and there is a definite green/yellow casing surrrounding the blue cased glass ( this hasn't shown in the pictures ) The sides of the vase are textured and bumpy and the base is smooth with no markings just some age related scratches. Now here the weird thing for me, if i look from the bottom up through the vase i can see through it, BUT, if i look down through it, the base seems to be a one way mirror, you cant see what the vase is sitting on. I have never seen this before, is this a common technique. Any Info would be lapped up!!
Cheers,
David.

Perhaps someone will be able to be more precise concerning a possible date...

JP, that sentence is simpatico in any language...  ;D

David, did you UV-check your vase? I can see some green on the top of your vase, but I´m not
sure if it´s just  some kind of camera effect.

Hi Dirk, No I havn't done a UV check yet, unfortunately I dont have a UV light thats working just now!! there is definatly a yellow/green surround to the blue casing, I will try and check tommorow. Looks like I may have found a good one at last!! ( now do I have to go back to the charity shop and leave a donation, I only paid £1,50 for the vase!! ) this ones definately a keeper.

David:

I'm not at home with books right now, but both Campanella and Mandruzzatto are possible. It's also possible that it's quite recent. Mandruzzatto were still producing up to the recent past. You might check out their web page  at http://www.mandruzzato.ve.it/   I think I remember a thread once that said the shape of the base was a key factor, so you might want  to look at that. Pina's book on Italian glass has a few pieces in it that might provide guidance.
