Title: stained glass lantern

Hi my name is ben hall

Looking for help in getting information on my stained glass lanterns. The lantern in question Ive had for over 10 years and still unsure of its history.

I am looking to sell this item but unsure of the value. After looking on the internet all i can find is a place name with some history to an old manor house.

I think its 1880 ish and it has a stamp mark of a well detailed tall jug with a long spout. underneath this picture is 'WYNYATES WARE' 'made in england'.

The lantern has been converted (not sure when this was done) and been designed for exterior use. Very colourfull and A1 condition(no damage, as new).

If anyone could shed some light!! i would be very gratefull

Made in England indicates that it's not 19th century. It looks quite modern to me.

Thanks Anne for sorting my picture issue out, and thankyou for the last post.

I am still baffled about the stamp mark on the top of the lead and the name. This lantern is by no means new and has been made by a company/business around the oxford area. i am sure there must be more of these made.

Its still early days so will leave it to the glass experts!

One reason it doesn't look old is the window using two pieces of glass. Old pieces wouldn't have been made like that but a modern piece imitating an old repaired piece would. Whatever, it is not 19th century because of the Made in England mark. That was something introduced in the 20th century.

Compton Wynyates is a placename around Warwickshire, and also Coombe Abbey, so this could be the source of manufacture.

Can I ask what makes you think its 1880? as it look modern to me by which I mean 60's 70's onwards.

In fact, looking a little closer at the texture of the green pane of glass, this looks like Hammered, and I'm fairly certain this is a 20th century texture. Given a good photo of the other textured panes (unless they are all the same), I might be able to date it more concisely.

Thanks for the input guys, it does seem that the lantern may of been made more recent than i expected.
If it was posted on ebay what sort of price do you think i should achieve?

The only way of finding out would be either to search the completed listings for similar pieces, or to just list it. An attractive layout and good pictures help.
